Having a studio in Long Island City for the past 2 years, I’ve come to meet and talk with a lot of wonderful, warm, and talented artists. One of which was Jose Carlos Casado. During my first open studios last year, I decided to brave the labrynthe like maze that is Wills Studios, and take a completely different route out of the building. As I followed the sign for the stairs leading down, it also brought me right smack in front of Jose Carlos’ studio. Since then I’ve been a huge fan of his work, as well as his person. Alive with energy and passion, his new work embraces a world of wonder, serenity, and adventure. I saw him briefly after the completion of his residency in Shanghai to find out that he had been selected to feature his work for a limited edition Swatch! 888 of them, in special packaging, will be sold exclusively in Venice. But don’t worry, there are 8,000 additional pieces that will be sold at Swatch outlets around the world! In the design, he cuts out a small chunk of time and leaves it black, reminding us to take a break every once in a while and enjoy life.

Had the pleasure of seeing Baba Yaga perform at Good Bye Blue Monday in Brooklyn this passed Friday. These guys can really rock out, bring the funk…and rock your socks off, out the door, and down the block! If you haven’t heard them perform, your missing out. Like them on facebook for more information about upcoming performances and other releases here… BABA YAGA
